Medtronic signs 10-year deal with Minnesota Vikings

Medtronic

Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) said today it signed a 10-year partnership with the Minnesota Vikings NFL team that includes sponsoring the “Medtronic Plaza,” a square connected to the team’s stadium.

The deal will put Medtronic’s moniker on the 3-acre gateway to the U.S. Bank Stadium the team plays in, as well as a community service program with the team and a permanent display of the company’s technological innovations inside the stadium.

“Medtronic was born and raised in Minnesota, and we are proud to be sponsoring this great new community asset for the Twin Cities and the Midwest region. Our sponsorship is a symbol of our continued commitment and presence in the state. Medtronic Plaza will be a gathering place available to the community 365 days a year.  It also provides us an ideal backdrop for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon,” Medtronic veep of global communications and corporate marketing Rob Clark said in a press release.

The plaza will see heavy traffic, according to Medtronic, with 85% of attendees estimated to enter the stadium through the now-branded plaza space.

“Medtronic has an extensive history of investing in Minnesota and this is another example of that commitment. We are proud to announce this broader partnership and to introduce Medtronic Plaza to the community. The nearly 3-acre programmable space next to a 4-acre park will offer a new and vastly improved pregame experience for our fans and all U.S. Bank Stadium users,” Vikings owner Mark Wilf said in prepared remarks.
