Intuitive Surgical gets in on telehealth provider InTouch

Intuitive Surgical, InTouch HealthInTouch Health said today that Intuitive Surgical (NSDQ:ISRG) picked up a stake for an undisclosed amount, as the companies embarked on a project to develop patient informatics solutions for Intuitive’s da Vinci robot-assisted surgery platform.

Santa Barbara, Calif.-based InTouch said part of the investment will go toward enhancing its telehealth cloud to host and deliver 3D anatomical reconstructions for surgeons using the da Vinci device.

“We are committed to providing hospitals and surgeons with new, innovative tools to improve patient outcomes,” Brian Miller, product development SVP at Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Intuitive, said in prepared remarks. “This collaborative agreement and investment in InTouch is an exciting opportunity to leverage the thought leadership from two innovative companies to enhance data, imaging and tele-mentoring solutions.”

“Intuitive Surgical is the global leader in robotic-assisted surgery,” added InTouch chairman & CEO Yulun Wang. “Intuitive Surgical’s strategic investment and collaboration is a testament to the unique capabilities of the InTouch telehealth cloud to deliver real-time collaboration and patient informatics in mission critical healthcare applications.”
