PhilipsRoyal Philips (NYSE:PHG) said yesterday it launched its CarePoint 5.0 resident safety and wander management solution system designed for senior living facilities and communities.

The new version of the system includes help buttons containing AutoAlert  automatic fall detection technology, which Philips says is the most widely technology of its kind in the emergency response industry.

“CarePoint 5.0 is a truly unique system that allows senior living communities to support their best practices, protocols and management needs in an ever evolving market – showcasing Philips’s all-encompassing approach to improve care. As communities change and grow, this solution allows for easy modification to help keep seniors safe and independent,” Philips home monitoring product management senior director Marcia Conrad-Miller said in a press release.

Philips touted its CarePoint 5.0 as 1 of the 1st and only resident safety systems to comply with requirements for emergency call systems in assisted living and independent living communities, accredited by the American National Standards Institution.

The system is designed to supply emergency response coverage for an entire community with multiple strategically linked wireless receviers placed throughout a facility to allow for accurate communication of a resident’s general location for optimized assistance.

In May, Philips said it inked an 8-year, $36 million deal with Medical University of South Carolina Health for its patient monitoring technology and services.

The deal calls for the Dutch conglomerate to install, integrate and manage patient monitoring systems and software, plus maintenance, training and consulting services, for the South Carolina healthcare provider, using a structured monthly payment model.

In February, Philips inked multi-year telehealth deals with 4 healthcare systems, including Westchester Medical Center Health Network, Tennessee’s Baptist Memorial Health Care and Missouri’s BJC HealthCare.

The company said in March that Mass. General Hospital would be the key testing site for a study of its Intellisite Solution digital pathology platform.
