Ex-HHS chief Sebelius joins Solera Health board

Solera Health said today that former U.S. Health & Human Services Dept. head Kathleen Sebelius joined its health advisory board.

The Phoenix-based technology platform is designed to unite patients and physicians with non-clinical healthcare providers such as community organizations and national programs. Solera contracts with health plans to bring chronic disease prevention programs, such as the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s Diabetes Prevention Program, to its member base.

The announcement comes a few months after Solera raised $4 million in a Series A1 round for the diabetes platform.

Sebelius served as the 24th HHS secretary from 2009 to 2014 under President Barack Obama, helping to pass and implement the Affordable Care Act. In 2011, she was named 1 of the 100 most influential people in the world by Forbes magazine. She also served as the governor of Kansas and spent 4 terms in the Kansas state legislature.
