Why adding device identifiers to insurance claims protects patients

But documenting device identifiers in claims forms is actually “feasible” and “straightforward,” and requires only modest effort, according to a new whitepaper from Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Of particular concern was that the device claims might require changes to chargemasters, the system hospitals use to bill for services. However, the report notes that can be done without incorporating this information in the chargemaster. Some hospitals had feared that incorporating device identifiers in claims could require changes to chargemasters.
