Fujifilm Holdings (TSE:4901) subsidiary Fujifilm Medical Systems is facing a patent infringement suit from Hologic (NSDQ:HOLX), which claims that the company infringed on 5 of its mammogram technology patents, according to a Connecticut Law Tribune report.
The suit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut on Monday claims that Japan-based Fujifilm “had specific intent to infringe the ‘296 patent or were willfully blind to such infringement,” according to the report.
The patents relate to Hologic’s Selenia Dimensions digital breast tomosynthesis system, which was issued patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office in 2010 and won FDA approval in 2011. The suit alleges that Fujifilm’s Aspire Cristalle System has similar features and that the company advertised the product in a way that infringed on Hologic’s patents, according to the report.
Other alleged infringements are similar in nature to the ‘296 patent, the Connecticut Law Tribune reports. The suit seeks to stop infringement, as well as monetary damages and associated legal costs.
In April, Hologic was hit with a patent infringement suit from Minerva Surgical over patents related to its NovaSure Advanced endometrial ablation system.
Redwood City, Calif.-based Minerva filed a complaint in federal court in San Francisco and said it could seek an injunction to block the US sales of the NovaSure Advanced system, which is designed to treat heavy menstrual bleeding.
