Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) is working with medtech startup Health Gorilla to add more health info, including diagnostic lab data, to its iPhone as it continues its quest to make it a centralized location for medical data, according to a CNBC report.
The tech giant is working with the startup to integrate information from hospitals, lab-testing companies and imaging centers into the device, according to the report.
Health Gorilla, which rebranded from Informedika in 2014, has raised a total of $4.4 million to support its clinical network platform. The company’s platform is a closed, HIPAA-compliant system which allows doctors, medical vendors and other users to share communications, consolidate medical records and make electronic orders, according to a press release from October 2015.
Both Health Gorilla and Apple have declined to comment on the possible partnership, CNBC reported.
Earlier this week, Apple was reported to be looking to turn its iPhone into a databank of medical info as it eyed a possible acquisition of Athenahealth.
The tech-sector giant has reportedly been in talks with players in the healthcare industry and developers to try and bring clinical data, including lab results, allergies, prescriptions and other information, to the iPhone.
