7 medtech stories we missed this week: August 4, 2017

From MDCorp inking a European distribution deal to Align Technology’s North Carolina expansion, here are seven medtech stories we missed this week but thought were still worth mentioning.

1. MDCorp inks distribution deal with Smart Endoscope Systems

MDCorp announced in a July 31 press release that it has signed a distribution agreement with Smart Endoscope Systems, giving MDCorp permission to sell Smart’s G-Eye system throughout its European market. Neuraxon, which is in the process of merging with MDCorp, is going to be responsible for distributing the G-Eye system in Europe and a network of 92 hospitals.

2. Align Technology expands in North Carolina

Align Technology has opened a larger office in Raleigh, N.C., according to an August 3 press release. The company plans to hire more than 200 people in Raleigh over the next few years. The company first opened a Raleigh office in July 2015 with 14 employees. The larger office space will add on to its current 230 employee roster.

3. Access Scientific launches PowerWand exchange catheter

Access Scientific has released its newest vascular access device the PowerWant REC (Rapid Exchange Catheter), according to an August 1 press release. The device requires no skin nicks to allow clinicians to easily exchange small bore catheters for large, high-flow PowerWand REC ones in seconds. PowerWand REC is quicker to insert than other catheters, carries less risk and is power-injectable while delivering higher flow rates than other central venous and intraosseous access. It is made of ChronoFlex C and is kink-resistant and blood-drawable.

4. SuperSonic Imagine releases next-gen Aixplorer

SuperSonic Imagine announced in a July 31 press release that it has launched the newest version of its ultrasound system called the Aixplorer Ultimate. Aixplorer Ultimate has 4.5 times more computing power than the company’s other models. It has an intuitive user interface and is easier to use than before. Aixplorer Ultimate also enables simultaneous visualization of anatomical structures, biopsy needles and the trajectory with precision.

 

5. FujiFilm launches Synapse Pacs 5

FujiFilm Medical Systems announced in an August 3 press release that it has launched its Synapse PACS version 5 in the U.S. The Synapse 5 is part of the company’s imaging portfolio. It is available to current FujiFilm PACS customers as a software upgrade. The company says the Synapse 5 is one of the fastest medical imaging solutions in the industry. It offers sub-second, on-demand access to massive datasets and the opportunity to interact with that data. It also has server-based image rendering and a zero-download viewer with browser flexibility.

6. Standard Bariatric wins FDA nod for Standard surgical clamp

Standard Bariatrics has received FDA clearance for its Standard Clamp, according to an August 3 press release. The clamp is the first-of-its-kind, disposable laparoscopic surgical clamp that helps surgeons perform laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The Standard Clamp clamps the entire length of the stomach to help surgeons plan and hold the staple line before dividing the stomach. The company has started distributing the clamp in the U.S.

7. Cerus partners with Central California Blood Center

Cerus announced in a July 27 press release that it has entered an agreement with Central California Blood Center (CBCC) that states CBCC will manufacture pathogen-reduced cryoprecipitate for Cerus. Cryoprecipitate is used to control the bleeding that comes with fibrinogen deficiency.
