4. Milestone Scientific wants to bring subcutaneous injections into the 21st century

As a dentist, Mark Hochman gave countless injections to his patients and watched as many of them would cringe from pain. Frustrated with a technology that he said hasn’t improved in decades, he decided to take a different approach to the common method of drug delivery.

“A team of us got together to evaluate whether we could change the way that subcutaneous drug delivery was being performed in this country and around the world,” Hochman told Drug Delivery Business News. “We realized that as one of the many routes of administration for drug delivery, it was being practiced on a device that was over 160 years old, which is basically the conventional syringe.” Read more

2. Mazor Robotics shares dip despite Q2 beat

Shares in Mazor Robotics fell today despite the robotic surgical platform developer posting 2nd quarter earnings that handily topped expectations on Wall Street.

The Caesarea, Israel-based company posted losses of $3.7 million, or 8¢ per share, on sales of $15.5 million for the 3 months ended June 30, seeing losses shrink 9.6% while sales grew 86.6% compared with the same period last year. Read more


1. Titan Medical makes Longtai largest shareholder in $2m distributorship conversion

Titan Medical said today that it inked a deal with Longtai Medical to convert $2 million Longtai paid as a distributorship deposit to equity, making Longtai the robotic surgical company’s largest shareholder.

The conversion comes 2 years after Titan Medical and Longtai negotiated a deal that would have made Longtai the company’s exclusive distributor of its Sport robotic surgical platform in China. Read more
