Every year, more than 1 million patients in the U.S. find themselves suffering from respiratory complications following surgery, according to Hill-Rom.
These complications come at a cost – to both the patient and the hospital. A respiratory problem can increase a patient’s time in the hospital by as much as 89%. More people die each year from pulmonary complications than from breast cancer, the Chicago-based company reported. Read more
2. Boston Scientific launches MRI-safe Resonate devices with HeartLogic diagnostic in U.S.
Boston Scientific launched today its Resonate implantable cardioverter defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator systems with the HeartLogic heart failure diagnostic tool.
The devices are approved by the FDA for conditional use in an MRI environment, the company reported. Read more
1. Shandong Weigao to pay $850m for Argon Medical Devices
Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer agreed to pay $850 million for Argon Medical Devices, as the Chinese company looks to expand its footprint overseas.
Weigao Group, which makes medical devices, orthopedic and blood purification products, is trying to fill out its product portfolio and diversify its revenue stream, according to a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The company said it expects “significant growth opportunities” for Argon Medical’s products in China, according to the filing. Read more
