Adhezion Biomedical said today it won FDA 510(k) clearance for its SecurePortIV catheter securement adhesive.
The Wyomissing, Penn.-based company said the SecurePortIV adhesive can be used with short-term or long-term vascular access devices to improve securement, seal catheter insertion sites, protect from catheter related blood stream infections and provide a water-resistant barrier.
“SecurePortIV is the only cyanoacrylate adhesive in the world that has been cleared by the FDA for use with vascular access devices. SecurePortIV has tremendous potential to greatly simplify the care and maintenance of vascular access devices while providing extraordinary value to healthcare facilities which can normally be achieved only through the combination of multiple different securement and catheter site management products,” Adhezion CEO & chair Pete Molinaro said in a press release.
Adhezion’s SecurePortIV is designed for use with vascular access devices, forming a film that holds catheters to the skin to reduce movement, migration and dislodgment, the company said.
Last September, Adhezion said it inked a long-term supply deal with Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) for exclusive U.S. distribution rights for Adhezion’s topical skin adhesives.
