General Electric (NYSE:GE) said yesterday it is supplying a bespoke advanced analytics solution for both the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang this year and the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
The system, designed through a partnership with the International Olympic Committee, integrates athlete information including injuries and illness alongside venue, sport and training procedures to produce more informed treatment decisions and improve health and safety at the games.
“Through digital transformation, the IOC is pursuing its mission of helping to prevent injuries among our world-class athletes. With 40 sports across the Olympic Games and Olympic Winter Games, each athlete requires unique healthcare monitoring and care. AMS will provide information that helps clinicians personalize training and treatment, so Olympians are best positioned to compete,” IOC medical & scientific director Dr. Richard Budgett said in a press release.
The analytics platform, known as the GE Athlete Management Solution, is designed to collect multiple data sources including imaging scans, patient vitals and sport and location-specific information to provide the medical staff with personalized treatments.
The system is multilingual and allows team doctors from multiple locations to collaborate with other physicians in languages including English, French, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German, Spanish and Korean.
“Olympians train for many years to represent their nations at the games. Their herculean efforts must be matched with superhuman clinical speed and quality. AMS helps clinicians do just that – by making data and actionable insights readily available to the treating clinicians,” GE Healthcare CTO Dr. Jorg Debatin said in a prepared statement.
Late last month, GE saw its fourth-quarter and annual numbers slide, but its GE Healthcare division managed to increase its sales and profits for both periods.
