Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) is set to cut another 280 jobs from its Andover, Mass.-based facilities, according to a recent Eagle-Tribune posting.
A total 120 of those jobs will be transferred to Philips’ Reedsville, Penn.-based facility, while another 160 will end up at the company’s new North American headquarters in Cambridge, Mass, according to the report.
The moves are slated to take effect in 2020, Philips communications director Silvie Casanova told the Eagle-Tribune, and are part of the company’s consolidation plans.
The majority of the individuals being moved to Reedsville will have an opportunity to transition along with their positions, she added.
The Andover location has served as a manufacturing location for the company’s ultrasound transducers for several years, and has employed as many as 2,200 individuals, according to the report. Casanova said they were uncertain how many jobs will remain in the area.
“It’s disappointing. We were told that the ultrasound division would stay in Andover,” board of selectmen chair Alex Vispoli said, according to the Eagle-Tribune. He added that it appears that few if any Philips employees will remain in Andover.
In January, Philips announced plans to move its North American headquarters and nearly 2,000 employees to Cambridge, Mass. in 2020, including employees from the Andover facilities.
