B. Braun gets into managed care with First Databank

B. Braun Medical, First Databank

B. Braun Medical said yesterday it will offer clinical support and managed care resources for and infusion pump drug library through a collaboration with First Databank.

Bethlehem, Penn.-based B. Braun said it will be the 1st implementation of an infusion pump drug library with FDB.

“Our innovative drug library software furthers our commitment to reducing medication errors and improving patient outcomes. This collaboration with FDB will give healthcare professionals enhanced drug library configuration management and clinical support tools,” marketing, automation and infusion systems veep Mike Golebiowski said in a press release.

The collaboration will see FDB’s Infusion Knowledge platform powering B. Braun’s DoseGuard drug library dose error reduction software in the company’s next-gen Infusomat space pump.

FDB’s Infusion Knowledge platform will add an online collaboration tool to aid in the approval process for creating drug libraries, a refined user interface for creating drug libraries and access to FDB’s reference materials.

“Pharmacists, nurses, and physicians are working harder than ever and are challenged to keep up-to-date on new and changing drug dosing information for IV medications. We are pleased to be working with B. Braun to bring FDB’s evidenced-based Infusion Knowledge content and unique collaboration tools to make it easier and faster to create and manage a drug library for smart pumps for these busy professionals,” FDB exec veep Bob Katter said in prepared remarks.

B. Braun said it will present the new infusion platform at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists conference in New Orleans next week.
