3. Patent board hands St. Jude Medical a win over patent troll
A U.S. patent board handed a win over a patent troll to St. Jude Medical, ruling that several claims in a patent owned by Atlas IP LLC are unpatentable.
Atlas, a so-called “non-practicing entity,” was pursuing infringement lawsuits against St. Jude, cross-town rival Medtronic, Boston Scientific and Biotronik. Read more
2. Becton Dickinson releases 1st joint BD-CareFusion product
Becton Dickinson & Co. said that it released the 1st product to combine its technologies with some of those acquired when it paid $12 billion for CareFusion in March.
The product, an automated intravenous medication management system, using BD’s Cato medication workflow system and CareFusion’s SmartWorks platform. It’s designed to work with pharmacy IT systems to receive IV orders, detecting potential errors and lowering healthcare providers’ risk of exposure to hazardous drugs, the Murray Hill, N.J.-based company said. 1. Brazilian anti-trust regulator raids medical device companies
Brazil’s anti-trust regulator raided medical device companies and distributors as part of a probe into possible collusion in public bids for implantable devices, hospital networks and health plans.
The country’s General Superintendence at the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, said the Dec. 1 raids in 8 Brazilian counties in 4 states was to “investigate alleged cartel in the Brazilian market of orthotics and prosthetics,” according to a Google translation of a CADE press release.
