Carestream wins $150m U.S. gov’t supply contract

CareStreamCarestream Health said today it won a potentially $150 million Digital Imaging Network-Picture Archiving and Communication System contract with the U.S. government to supply it with medical image management products and services.

Through the contract, Carestream will supply IT products including its Clinical Collaboration platform, Vue Motion universal viewer, MyView patient portal and Vue Beyond management dashboard. The new contract includes a 5-year base period, with 1 5-year option period, the company said.

“Carestream continues to work closely with clinicians and medical staff at government healthcare facilities to equip them to deliver timely, personal care for patients and their families. We have a reputation for excellence in medical image management technologies, and our proven solutions are installed in commercial and government facilities in the United States and around the world,” Carestream healthcare information solutions GM Ludovic d’Aprea said in a press release.

The Rochester, N.Y.-based company said it has provided such services under a previous contract for 5 years.

Earlier this month, Carestream health said it won FDA 510(k) clearance for its OnSight 3D extremity system. The company’s newly cleared device uses cone beam CT tech to capture weight-bearing and other types of extremity exams. The system is designed for use by orthopaedic and sports medicine practices, hospitals, imaging centers, urgent care facilities and other healthcare providers, the company said.

Carestream said the device allows patients to view 3D images to help illustrate conditions or injuries and aid in understanding the need for treatment or surgical procedures.
