Royal Philips debuts Volcano tech in Canada

Royal Philips debuts Volcano tech in CanadaRoyal Philips (NYSE:PHG) said today that it debuted its Volcano catheter-based imaging and measurement systems for minimally invasive diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular disease in Canada.

Eighty-five percent of Canadian hospitals use Philips cardiology solutions, according to the Netherlands-based company.

Its imaging and navigation systems provide direction for clinicians to guide catheters to an area of interest in the body. Clinical evidence demonstrates that using imaging catheters alongside interventional X-ray imaging improves outcomes, Philips reported.

Systems in the Volcano portfolio include the intravascular ultrasound catheters, which produce ultrasound images of interior blood vessels and fractional flow reverse technology, used to assess blood pressure.

“We are committed to delivering innovative solutions for our customers in Canada and the patients they serve,” Philips Canada president & CEO Iain Burns said in prepared remarks. “The inclusion of our Volcano products will provide our customers with better access to all of the integrated technologies and specialized expertise across Philips’ entire image guided therapy portfolio. Offering our customers these integrated solutions helps us achieve our goal of equipping them with tools that can improve their patients’ care.”

Earlier this year, Philips enrolled more than 5,000 patients in 3 clinical trials evaluating its Volcano instant wave-free ratio pressure measurement technology.
