Cook Medical launches Motion 2-in-1 hybrid guidewire

Cook MedicalCook Medical said today it launched the Motion 2-in-1 hybrid wire guide designed for urology procedures.

The newly launched device features both a nitinol access guidewire with a Teflon fixed core safety guidewire, the Bloomington, Ind.-based company said.

Cook Medical touted the hybrid device, saying the combined guidewires allow clinicians to “streamline” their procedures by reducing the total number of wire guides required for procedures.

“We are eager to introduce this product to urologists to simplify their procedures by offering them the option to use one hybrid wire guide in place of two wire guides. Additionally, inventory could be consolidated in certain cases because it is no longer necessary to stock both an access wire guide and a safety wire guide,” Cook Medical urology biz global leader Jean-Marc Creissel said in prepared remarks.

Last September, Cook Medical said it won reimbursement from the French Health ministry for its Zilver PTX drug-eluting peripheral stent thumbwheel delivery system and launched the device in the country.

The Zilver PTX rotating thumbwheel system is designed for medication deployment to what Bloomington, Ind.-based Cook Medical says is the “world’s 1st drug-eluting stent for the superficial femoral artery.”
