The International Neuromodulation Society yesterday released new evidence-based guidance for neuromodulation implants.
The guidance, which includes more than 60 articles from experts in the field, reviews over 600 scientific publications in the neuromodulation field and provides guidelines for the safe and efficient use of such devices
“Interest in targeted delivery of chemical agents has grown in part because intrathecal drug delivery requires perhaps just 1% of an oral dose, and is not prone to painkiller diversion or misuse. Meanwhile neurostimulation treats disease symptoms without relying on medication, by applying targeted electrical stimulation,” INS prez Dr. Timothy Deer said in a press release.
The guidance articles provide recommendations related to specific issues often faced by patients suffering with chronic conditions, the group said.
