Johnson & Johnson medical device chief Pruden to step down

Gary PrudenGary Pruden, the chairman of Johnson & Johnson‘s (NYSE:JNJ) medical devices unit, is slated to step down June 1, the healthcare giant said today.

Pruden, who’s worked at J&J for 32 years, is due to be replaced by worldwide chairwoman Sandi Peterson, the company said.

“As the leader of global surgery, Gary transformed the surgery, cardiovascular and specialty businesses, accelerating their growth and elevating the innovation agenda, most notably by driving a collaboration with Google to develop a transformational robotic surgery platform,” Johnson & Johnson said in prepared remarks.

Peterson already leads J&J’s consumer, consumer medical device and health & wellness businesses; she’s also in charge of infrastructure areas including supply chain, IT, global design and health technology. Peterson joined Johnson & Johnson from Bayer Crop Sciences in September 2012.
