5. Heraeus Medical Components acquires Biotectix

Heraeus Medical Components is acquiring conductive polymer materials maker Biotectix.

The deal, announced yesterday, will allow Heraeus to boost its medical electrode coating capabilities. Better electrode coatings equal better performance of sensing and stimulation electrodes used in diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices. Read more


4. CDC to use T2 Biosystems in testing for superbug Candida auris

T2 Biosystems Inc. said today that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will use its T2Dx Instrument to test and monitor for the emergence and outbreaks of the antibiotic-resistant superbug Candida auris.

The Lexington, Mass.-based company said the use of the T2Dx “represents multiple, new applications” for the platform. The system will be used for the 1st time to test patient skin and blood samples and also for environmental surveillance and to monitor outbreaks. Read more


3. GE Healthcare wins FDA nod for mammography system with patient controlled compression

GE Healthcare said yesterday it won FDA 510(k) clearance for its Senographe Pristina Dueta, which it claims is the 1st patient-assisted mammography device that allows women to control their own compression during the examination.

With the system, the woman undergoing the exam can control the application of compression on their breasts to minimize perceived pain and discomfort that is often associated with a mammogram, the company said. Read more


2. Johnson & Johnson hosts launch party for Cerenovus neurovascular biz

Johnson & Johnson said today it launched its Cerenovus brand, which combined its Pulsar Vascular and Neuravi acquisitions and its remaining Codman Neuro neurological portfolio.

Cerenovus was launched at the European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy’s 9th annual meeting, J&J said. Read more


1. NuVasive acquires Vertera Spine

NuVasive Inc. said today that it acquired Vertera Spine and its interbody implants for an undisclosed amount.

Atlanta, Ga.-based Vertera developed the Cohere and Coalesce implants using porous version of the material polyetheretherketone, or PEEK. San diego-based NuVasive said the buyout makes it the only company to offer spinal implants made of PEEK and titanium. Read more
