NASS 2017 Roundup: Zimmer Biomet launches Vitality+, Vital spinal fixation systems

North American Spine Society

Zimmer Biomet (NYSE:ZBH) today announced the launch of its Vitality+ and Vital spine fixation systems in the US following recent 510(k) clearance for pedicle preparation and screw insertion under power.

The Vitality+ spinal fixation system is composed of a Vitality+ Power designed for controlled pedicle preparation and pedicle screw insertion, Vitality+ PSO designed for optimal pedicle subtraction osteotomy and vertebral column resection and Vitality+ Hooks for additional fixation options, the Warsaw, Ind.-based company said.

The recent clearance allows the inclusion of the market’s first flexible drill and blunted reamer designed to flex off cortical bone during procedures into the Vitality+ Power set, Zimmer Biomet said.

“The enhancements to the Vitality System are prime examples of Zimmer Biomet’s commitment to the advancement of deformity correction. The ergonomic benefit, OR efficiencies and comprehensiveness provided by Power, PSO and Hooks truly support spine surgeons during procedures, and especially in complex cases, all while maintaining high quality patient care,” orthopedic spinal surgeon Dr. David Skaggs said in a prepared statement.

The Vital spinal fixation system comes in a two-kit configuration which includes all instruments required for degenerative spinal surgeries, Zimmer Biomet said.

“The Vital System’s upgraded screw and consolidated kit design offer noticeable operational efficiencies for common one- and two-level degenerative posterior thoracolumbar spine procedures. The streamlined System allows me to complete cases faster, while still providing quality patient care,” neurosurgeon Dr. Justin Smith said in a press release.
