7 medtech stories we missed this week: Dec. 8, 2017

From Minimus Spine’s European distribution deal to Stimwave receiving FDA clearance, here are seven medtech stories we missed this week but thought were still worth mentioning.

1. Minimus Spine inks EU distribution deal

Minimus Spine announced in a Dec. 4 press release that it has signed its first European distribution deal with Italian company Moss and has completed its first commercial order. Moss has exclusive distribution rights to distribute in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the U.K.

2. Elanix, Dermacon sign wound management development deal

Elanix Biotechnologies and Dermacon have signed an agreement to develop progenitor cell medical devices that help accelerate wound healing, according to a Dec. 1 press release. The new devices, called First Cover, will use Elanix’s progenitor cell technology and will be evaluated to accelerate healing in acute and chronic wounds. Dermacon will design progenitor cell matrix-based products for Elanix and guide the development and CE mark processes.

3. CSA Medical launches TruFreeze Rapid AV trial

CSA Medical announced in a Nov. 27 press release that it has enrolled its first patient into a multi-center prospective study that determines the effects of spray cryotherapy on patients who have esophageal cancer. The patient received treatment at the University of North Carolina’s Center for Esophageal Diseases and Swallowing.

4. Cagent Vascular gets CE Mark

Cagent Vascular has received CE Marking for its Serrantor PTA Serration Balloon Catheter, according to a Nov. 20 press release. The company recently got ISO 13485 certification as well. The Serrantor is part of a peripheral artery disease technologies family from the company. It featured four embedded metal strips on an angioplasty balloon that is designed to create multiple longitudinal lines of interrupted micro-serrations to help with arterial expansion. Serrated materials are more responsive to the balloon’s directed energy, giving it lumen expansion in a controlled and predictable way.

5. Life Spine launches Simpact joint fixation screws

Life Spine announced in a Nov. 21 press release that it has launched its Simpact Tri-Fin Sacroiliac Joint Fixation Screw System. The screw system was designed with an anti-rotational sleeve to inhibit component back out, and a screw thread design that allows for a surgeon to compress and stabilize the SI joint. The system also features Life Spine’s Osseo-Loc technology that allows for bone-on growth.

6. InspireMD inks AustralAsian distribution deal

InspireMD has signed a distribution deal with Diverse Devices and Do Gia Production and Trading to distribute its MicroNet technology, according to a Dec. 4 press release. Diverse Devices will distribute in Australia and New Zealand while Do Gia Production and Trading will distribute in Vietnam. The company recently signed distribution deals in Hong Kong and Taiwan as well.

7. Stimwave receives FDA clearance for injectable anchoring system

Stimwave announced in a Nov. 28 press release that it has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its SandShark Injectable Anchor System. The clearance allows the anchor to be used by interventional pain management clinicians to insert Stimwave’s Wireless Pain Relief technology through a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure. Stimwave’s pain relief technology is a non-opioid alternative to treating chronic pain.
