SightLife Surgical said today it is rebranding under the moniker CorneaGen, with plans to launch several new products under the new brand.
Products set to launch under the new name include tissue storage media with antifungal Ampho B, Geuder preloaded glass cannula for DMEK and Intacs corneal implants for keratoconus, which join the company’s recent acquisition of the AcuFocus Kamra inlay.
“Corneal implants are a natural fit with CorneaGen’s growing family of innovative corneal products and services. The Kamra Inlay acquisition makes sense because of CorneaGen’s long-standing relationships with corneal surgeons and its reputation for providing unique solutions and excellent service to customers,” refractive cornea VP Patrick Jacques, who transitioned from AcuFocus after its acquisition, said in a prepared statement.
CorneaGen said it will focus on refractive cornea care, having signed an exclusive US distribution agreement for Intacs with Addition tech from AJL Ophthalmics
“Over the past year and a half, we have been expanding into more products and services to transform how corneal surgeons treat the cornea. To reflect this expansion and to help audiences connect us to the broader cornea ecosystem, we have changed our name to CorneaGen. We believe this new name conveys our expansion and communicates that we will be innovating the next generation of medical devices, biologics, therapeutics and interventions that will transform cornea care,” prez & CEO Monty Montoya said in a press release.
The newly renamed company also announced a partnership with the Lions Eye Bank of Texas at Baylor College of Medicine to support the bank’s continued eye and cornea donation functions and enable CorneaGen to provide local surgeons and patients more options for cornea treatments.
Last month, AcuFocus inked a deal with SightLife Surgical to divest itself of its AcuFocus Kamra corneal inlay designed for surgically treating presbyopia for an undisclosed amount.
