TE Connectivity to lay off 86 in Worcester, Mass.

TE Connectivity is looking to lay off 86 employees from its Worcester, Mass.-based facilities, according to a Massachusetts Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act report.

The layoffs come as the company looks to close down a cable-manufacturing facility in the city, and will proceed through to March of next year, according to a Boston Business Journal report.

According to the WARN notice, the layoffs will be effective between November 9 this year and February 1 of next year.

TE Connectivity said that it is working to find alternative positions within the company for as many individuals as possible, and that it will provide severance pay for affected employees, according to the BBJ.

“We continually evaluate market conditions in an effort to keep pace with market dynamics. This action allows us to appropriately optimize our organization to meet our customers’ needs while meeting our financial commitments. The decision to scale back there is similarly part of a continued analysis we do of the markets where we compete. This group of employees is also being provided with severance pay, benefits continuation and outplacement services to assist them,” communications senior director B.J. Talley told the BBJ in an email, according to the report.

In May, TE Connectivity said it acquired Medway, Mass.-based MicroGroup which produces precision metal shafts for medical devices.
