Carl Zeiss Meditec (ETR:AFX) said today it inked a deal to acquire micro-interventional cataract surgery tech dev IanTech for an undisclosed amount.
Reno, Nev.-based IanTech designed and developed the miLOOP device intended for micro-interventional cataract surgery.
The system uses thin, super-elastic, self-expanding nitinol filament technology and is intended to allow the user to achieve full thickness lens fragmentation for any grade cataract to reduce intraocular ultrasonic vibrations and phase power, according to the company’s website.
“We expect that IanTech will complement our leading portfolio of equipment and consumables in cataract surgery, allowing us to offer physicians and patients a new standard of care. The technology has the potential to simplify challenging cases, reduce risk to patients and further improve outcomes while being easy to train and adapt for surgeons,” Carl Zeiss Meditec prez & CEO Dr. Ludwin Monz said in a prepared release.
“We look forward to joining Zeiss to combine our efforts in bringing superior technology to the market and we are pleased to align with the great culture and commitment at Zeiss,” IanTech CEO Brian Walsh said in a press release.
Earlier this month, Carl Zeiss Meditec said that it won FDA premarket approval for its ReLEx Smile laser system intended for ophthalmological use.
