Ascom buys United Medical Software

Ascom

Ascom said today it acquired Italian medical software company United Medical Software for an undisclosed amount.

UMS develops and offers software for integrating medical devices and provides digital medical record software for life-critical patient care, according to Swedish Ascom.

“Ascom is very pleased to have acquired a business with such a good strategic fit. This is an important technology acquisition for Ascom’s Healthcare ICT strategy. With the acquired software solutions, we have the opportunity to give our customers even more possibilities to improve their clinical workflows. In addition, we will gain direct access to the Italian market. This transaction accelerates Ascom’s roadmap for its integration capabilities and is the next step in building and strengthening the leading position of Wireless Solutions in the global healthcare communications market,” Ascome wireless solutions GM Claes Ödman said in a press release.

Ascom said Florence-based UMS produces modular, point-of-care digital medical records software solutions and aids clinicians in treating life-critical patients.

The addition will help improve Ascom’s market position in Italy, thanks to UMS’ installed base in the region, Ascom said.

Ascom signed an agreement to acquire all shares of UMS, and hopes to close the deal in mid-January next year. All 27 employees of UMS will be taken over but remain at their existing locations.

Though no exact numbers were given, Ascom said the deal will be in “the mid-single digit millions,” and agreed to an earn-out payment in the low-single digit millions dependent on meeting revenue targets.
