Vayyar pulls in $22m for 3D imaging tech

Vayyar Imaging

3D-imaging sensor company Vayyar Imaging said Tuesday it raised $22 million in a Series B round to help the company scale its enterprise offering internationally.

The funding round was led by Walden Riverwood, and joined by Battery Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Israel Cleantech Ventures and Amiti Ventures.

“Investing in Vayyar Imaging was an obvious choice. 3D imaging sensor technology is the future, and Vayyar is leading the way with its truly revolutionary technology. Vayyar’s tremendous growth in the enterprise market validates that there is a very large demand globally for solutions that empower people to improve their health, safety and quality of life using mobile, low-cost, safe 3D imaging sensors,” Walden International chair Lip-Bu Tan said in a press release.

Vayyar’s sensor technology is designed to see through materials, objects and liquids, and scan objects to create a 3d image of its contents, according to the company. The sensor is able to detect motion, speed and track multiple people in large areas, the company said.

“I am proud and honored to work with such a passionate, innovative and multi-disciplinary team.  We look forward to advancing Vayyar Imaging’s technologies into a new era where low-cost imaging systems can solve major challenges in a variety of different markets – including breast cancer screening, monitoring aging populations for their safety, saving water through accurate irrigation, and so much more,” Vayyar CEO Raviv Melamed said in prepared remarks.

The Israeli-company’s sensor technology is based on low power radio frequency transmissions.

“Vayyar’s team is developing scientifically significant technology that is not only improving some companies’ bottom lines, but truly improving the quality of life for people worldwide. We are excited to continue supporting such impactful innovation,” Battery Ventures GP Scott Tobin said in a prepared statement.

Vayyar said it will present its new sensor technology at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
