AdvaMed 2016 announces MedTech Innovator competition

MedTech InnovatorThink your medical device company has some cutting-edge tech? You might want to consider entering the MedTech Innovator contest sponsored by the AdvaMed 2016 annual conference.

The “virtual accelerator” aims to choose 4 finalists to compete at the conference Oct. 17 – 19 in Minneapolis for some $250,000 in cash prizes and networking and mentorship from some of the biggest names in medtech. The deadline for applying is May 15.

The audience at the event will hear pitches from the 4 finalists before voting on the winner.

“MedTech Innovator is an exemplary showcase of the emerging talent that the medical technology industry has to offer, and an opportunity to accelerate the development of lifesaving technologies,” RCT Ventures managing director Paul Grand, who’s also head of MedTech Innovator, said in prepared remarks. “This competition and accelerator presents participants a host of opportunities to make connections with investors and partners, gain industry know-how and increase exposure, and I encourage medical technology startups to apply.”

“From uncovering new technologies to supporting partnership and growth, MedTech Innovator enables our development teams to evaluate and interact with the most promising companies relevant to our strategic interests,” added Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices vice president for business development Susan Morano.

Early- to mid-stage companies with medical device, diagnostic and digital technologies addressing the following themes should apply to the MedTech Innovator contest:

• Next-Gen Surgical
• Chronic Disease Management
• Patient Safety and Satisfaction
• Health Care Efficiency, Care Coordination and Cost Reduction
• Precision and Personalized Medicine
• Population Health
• Infectious Disease Management
• Technology-Enabled Services
• Consumer Health Care

“The MedTech Innovator competition and accelerator dovetails with AdvaMed Accel’s mission to support the strategic development and fundraising efforts of these innovative small companies, and we look forward to working with participants throughout 2016,” Ashley Wittorf, executive director & SVP of AdvaMed Accel, said in a press release.
