Medtronic inks partnership deal with self-management program dev Canary Health

Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) is partnering with digital health self-management program developer Canary Health to resell and distribute its full suite of chronic disease self-management program, including its Diabetes Prevention Program.

Through the partnership, the 2 companies will also develop additional solutions that operate around Medtronic’s devices, services and infrastructure as well as Canary Health’s platform of behavior change programs.

“We are very excited about the addition of Canary Health’s well-established and reimbursable self-management programs to our portfolio of diabetes management solutions. This new relationship with Canary Health enables us to offer healthcare organizations broader, deeper and more holistic diabetes management solutions that improve clinical outcomes and bend the cost curve as we pursue value-based healthcare models,” Medtronic diabetes service and solutions prez Annette Brüls said in a press release.

Los Angeles-based Canary Health said it hopes the partnership will help scale its CDC-recognized diabetes prevention program to reach more individuals with diabetes.

“With more than $322 billion spent on diabetes and pre-diabetes care in the United States annually, and more than 3,800 people being diagnosed with diabetes every day, clearly an innovative and comprehensive approach to prevention and treatment of the disease is desperately needed. We are proud to partner with Medtronic to address a broader spectrum of the diabetes epidemic with our DPP and condition self-management programs. Given the consistently significant clinical and financial returns we’ve seen across all of our self-management programs, we strongly believe that providing self-management support for chronic diseases is one of the most critical steps the healthcare industry can take in delivering value-based care,” Canary Health CEO Adam Kaufman said in a prepared statement.
