Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) said today that it launched its Resolution 360 hemostasis clip, designed to provide physicians with controlled rotation for more accurate clip placement during endoscopy procedures.
The Marlborough, Mass.-based company’s device uses a multi-wire catheter, which can rotate the clip in small, controlled movements to guide it to the targeted area. Physicians at the United European Gastroenterology Week in Vienna and the American College of Gastroenterology annual meeting in Las Vegas will have a chance to use the clip in a simulator this week, Boston Scientific said.
Physicians perform hemostasis by using clips to stop and help prevent bleeding in the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract when treating conditions such as peptic ulcers and diverticulosis of the colon. Boston Scientific cited a retrospective study that demonstrated clipping can reduce the risk of bleeding from 9.8% to 1.7%, reducing the adverse events associated with GI bleeding.
“The Resolution 360 Clip gives me the unique advantage of controlling the movement and placement of the clip while also maneuvering the scope during the clipping procedure,” Dr. David Carr-Locke of Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center said in prepared remarks. “The ability to have complete control can help improve the accuracy of clip placement and the speed of the procedure particularly in complex cases.”
“We are always striving to improve our technology so that physicians have the tools they need to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disease more easily and effectively,” added senior VP & president of endoscopy Art Butcher. “Building on the legacy Resolution Clip and its clinically proven technology, the expanded portfolio now offers physicians more hemostatic clipping options to consider in different clinical situations and patient anatomies.”
