The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) just released its list of the 2017 IDEA award-winning designed products.

The winners in the medical device category included several interesting devices. But what really caught our eye was the Student Designs category, which featured several noteworthy medical innovations. These devices were interesting because of their focus on real problems of today: designing for low-resource areas, emergency situations, and cost conscious care. Many of them incorporated monitoring through the use of IoT devices and highlighted a sophisticated integration of data collection and analysis.

IDSA believes these innovations are among the best of the best in design. Indeed, they encourage fresh thinking about how new medical devices could be designed.

If you think they are worth a second look, the public is invited to vote online through Aug. 11 for the People’s Choice Award. The winner will be announced along with other special awards on Aug. 19 at IDSA’s Gala event to celebrate the design competition.

Read on at Medical Design and Outsourcing to find out more about these five student-designed devices.
