Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) said today it launched new home telehealth services and solutions to satisfy a recently won national contract from the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Fridley, Minn.-based company said it has partnered with the VA since 2011 and that its portfolio of solutions includes new technology platforms and integrated diagnostic devices to serve complex, chronic and co-morbid patients. The services include daily health checks for patients and education on conditions including adaptive clinical question sets based on patient responses.

Through the system, clinicians are supplied with an “action-oriented” view of their patient population to enable informed, early-care interventions when necessary.

“We are honored to continue our partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide telehealth technology and solutions to veteran patients. Our expanded offering is designed to provide more patient choice and flexibility to better meet individual health needs. We continue to deliver on our commitment to the VA, and are excited to start doing so under the terms of this new Home Telehealth contract,” Medtronic Care Management Services VP & GM Sheri Dodd said in a press release.

Medtronic said that patients who previously used VA telehealth services for at least 1 year showed a 19% reduction in hospital admissions and a 4% reduction in care costs.

Earlier this month, Medtronic said it won FDA approval for its portfolio of Azure pacemakers with BlueSync patient monitoring technology.
