A former Stryker (NYSE:SYK) employee pleaded guilty yesterday to accepting a $75,000 bribe for steering business to a New York metallurgy firm, federal prosecutors said.
Eugene Ostrovsky, a vice president and partner at Sanova LLC, pleaded guilty in February 2017 to bribing former Stryker engineering director Daniel Lawrynowicz in 2012 and 2013 to win a $5.5 million contract with the medical device giant.
Yesterday Lawrynowicz pleaded guilty to a single violation of the Federal Travel Act, according to the U.S. District Attorney for New Jersey’s office. He faces 5 years in prison, plus a $250,000 fine or twice the gross gain or loss, and must forfeit $75,000, the prosecutors said. Lawrynowicz is slated to be sentenced July 23.
Ostrovsky was sentenced March 9 to six months in jail, six months of home confinement and two years of supervised release, according to prosecutors; he will also forfeit $1.1 million in connection with the plea.
According to a transcript from the complaint filed against Lawrynowicz, the FBI in December 2015 recorded him on calls with an unnamed representative from Sanova in which they allegedly discuss concealing about $75,000 in bribes ahead of a fictitious audit of Sanova.
Ostrovsky and another Sanova partner, Anatoly Samgorodsky, were sentenced in a separate case involving charges that they bribed a U.S. Energy Dept. official to win a $3.4 million contract to research nuclear reactor fuel rods.
In May 2017 Samgorodsky was sentenced to 18 months in prison, three years of supervised release, a $25,000 fine and $70,000 in restitution. Ostrovsky in January drew a split sentence of 6 months in jail, followed by two years of supervised release including an initial six months of home confinement and a $5000 fine.
