Masimo (NSDQ:MASI) said today it launched the Iris Gateway server-based medical device data integration software. The release was announced at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s annual conference in Las Vegas.
The Iris Gateway system is designed to connect to existing medical devices and perform required translations to move the data from the devices into electronic medical records. The company said the Iris Gateway can be deployed on a remote server farm, or as a server appliance in hospitals.
“Iris Gateway is an important part of Masimo’s goal of bridging medical device data silos. It can be used to connect isolated devices to hospital EMR systems in high-acuity settings like the OR and the ICU or in low-acuity settings like medical-surgical units. When data from different medical devices is more readily available in the patient’s electronic medical record, they may provide a clearer and more complete picture of the patient. At Masimo, we are dedicated to providing clinicians with vital information when they need it most,” CEO Joe Kiani said in a press release.
Masimo said the Iris ports on the Root patient monitor allow other devices, such as infusion pumps, ventilators, patient monitors and “smart” beds, to connect to the Iris Gateway. Data from those devices can be associated with the patients and automatically entered into the patients EMR.
Last month, Masimo said it won FDA 510(k) clearance for noninvasive blood pressure and temperature monitoring through its Root platform.
The Root platform features integrated non-invasive blood pressure monitoring from SunTech Medical, which allows for spot checks, automatic interval checks or stat interval checks, and a temperature module from Welch Allyn designed for adult and pediatric patients.
