Medtronic to shift product lines from Colorado plant

MedtronicMedtronic (NYSE:MDT) is planning to move a pair of product lines from a plant in Colorado to other facilities, a spokesman told MassDevice.com today.

Fridley, Minn.-based Medtronic acquired the lines when it paid $50 billion for Covidien in January 2015. Spokesman John Jordan told us that the plant in Boulder, Colo., makes surgical energy return pads and electro-surgical pencils.

The shift is part of a plan that’s expected to be complete in 2019, Jordan wrote in an email, declining to elaborate on how many workers are involved and whether layoffs are in store.

“We do not discuss facility/site specific employment numbers,” he wrote.

Medtronic employs about 1,700 workers in Boulder County, according to the Longmont Times-Call.

“We announced to our employees today the move of two manufacturing lines to other facilities,” Jordan told the newspaper yesterday. “This is a multi-year project. At this time no positions are being impacted.”
