Hologic inks marketing deal with Bovie Medical for J-Plasma surgical tool

Bovie Medical, HologicBovie Medical (NYSE:BVX) said today it inked a sales channel partnership deal with Hologic, (NSDQ:HOLX) adding Bovie’s J-Plasma product line to its portfolio.

The deal, which goes into effect immediately, will add J-Plasma to Hologic’s gynecological and gynecological/oncological surgery portfolio in 3 U.S. regions, Bovie Medical said.

“We are proud to partner with a Company of Hologic’s caliber. This agreement is an important milestone in our strategy to scale J-Plasma through select sales channel partnerships across multiple specialties that represent large addressable market opportunities,” Bovie Medical CEO Robert Gershon said in a press release.

The initial agreement will last 6 months, with an option to extend into a worldwide distribution pact that would integrate Hologic’s entire surgical sales force.

“J-Plasmas reputation for unparalleled precision and safety makes it an ideal product for surgical procedures involving delicate surrounding tissue and structures. This agreement aligns with our strategy of providing our customers with cutting-edge technology that makes a real difference in patients’ lives,” Hologic GYN surgical solutions prez Thomas O’Neill said in a press release.

In April, Bovie Medical said it launched its J-Plasma compatible Precise 360 hand piece designed for prostate surgery procedures.

The newly released J-Plasma Precise 360 handpiece is designed with an angled and rotating tip to allow operating surgeons to access to structures that would be difficult to reach with straight laparoscopic devices, the Clearwater, Fla.-based company said.
