NxStage Medical (NSDQ:NXTM) said today it inked a 3-year home hemodialysis supply agreement with Satellite Healthcare.
Satellite, a non-profit group, is the 6th-largest dialysis and kidney disease treatment provider in the U.S. The deal will put NxStage’s Nx2me connected health platform in the hands of Satellite’s home hemodialysis patients.
“We’re delighted that our depth of experience and investment in breakthrough technologies like Nx2me allow us to give Satellite Healthcare additional tools to optimize the way they provide personal care to their patients. We’ve had a long, successful relationship with Satellite, and are excited to extend the partnership to help Satellite continue to lead by example in the care of home dialysis patients,” NxStage prez Joseph Turk said in prepared remarks.
The Nx2me connected health operates through the Nx2me app, which uses tablets, cloud computing and wireless communications to collect home hemodialysis data in addition to patient information like blood pressure and weight. Patients can review, confirm, and transmit this data to their centers after each treatment.
“This partnership strengthens our Re-Imagine Home goal to change the landscape of home dialysis with the design of an industry-leading home dialysis model. We identified a number of ways to empower patients, including how technology like Nx2me can be a leading factor in removing barriers to choosing and staying with home dialysis,” Satellite Healthcare CEO Rick Barnett said in a press release.
In February, NxStage touted data from studies of its Nx2me connected health technology and home hemodialysis systems, which the company plans to present at the 2016 Annual Dialysis Conference in Seattle later this month.
In a study of 328 patients treated with the company’s HHD using its Nx2me platform, NxStage reported a 44% reduction in controllable dropout when compared against patients not treated with the telehealth system.
