Doctors previously had to examine actual organs with their hands to get a feel for what they need to do surgically. Now, MRIs and 3D printers eliminate the need to put on gloves and get messy. And surgeons can feel more prepared going into a procedure than they did before.
Most 3D organ models are created using the same process: CT and MRI scans create computer models of the organ, and a 3D printer prints a customized version of the organ.
From 3D printed models helping to separate conjoined twins to 3D printed organs that bleed to train surgeons, here are eight ways 3D printed models are helping surgeons and patients in healthcare.
