Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) said today it launched the Concerto 3D detachable coil system designed for use in the peripheral vasculature.

The Fridley, Minn.-based company announced the launch at the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe’s meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 3D coil operates as an adjunctive product to the company’s existing Concerto Helix line with indications for arterial and venous embolizations. The device has a complex shape to aid in framing the treatment area through the creation of a scaffold and fibers to increase thrombogenicity, Medtronic said.

Yesterday, Medtronic said it won FDA approval for its Intellis implantable spinal cord stimulation system and launched it in the US.

The company touted the newly revised system as the world’s smallest, and said that the new unit was designed to improve battery performance and standardize guidance and balancing of high-dose and low-dose therapy settings.
