Orthofix rebrands pediatric extremities biz as JuniOrtho

OrthoFix's JuniOrtho

Orthofix (NSDQ:OFIX) said today it is rebranding its pediatric orthopedic devices business under the new moniker JuniOrtho.

The Lewisville, Texas-based company said it will unveil its JuniOrtho line at the EPOSNA annual meeting in Barcelona this week.

As part of the new brand launch the company said it also developed a series of resources related to pediatric orthopedics. Included in the launch are pediatric orthopedic websites for patients and physicians, educational sites on pediatric deformity correction and applications, games and more for young children to help them understand orthopedic procedures they might receive.

“For parents, the decision to have surgery for a child is a big one. Typically, they come to the surgery consultation after doing some online research regarding their child’s condition and of course they have a lot of questions. Having patient resources such as websites, activity sheets and games is a great way to provide children and their parents with additional insight,” Christopher Iobst of The Ohio State University College of Medicine said in a prepared statement.

Orthofix said that its 1st commercialized product was a pediatric extremity fixation product, the Limb Lengthener, and that it has created more than 35 devices for adults and children suffering from orthopedic deformities and traumas.

“With a long history of developing innovative and cutting edge extremity fixation technologies, Orthofix has now brought all of our pediatric expertise and products together under the JuniOrtho banner. This launch represents much more than our products; it’s also a commitment to be a resource for surgeons and the parents and caregivers of pediatric patients before, during and after surgery,” Orthofix extremity fixation prez Davide Bianchi said in a press release.

In February, Orthofix saw shares stay steady after it beat expectations from Wall Street with its 4th quarter and full fiscal year 2016 earnings results.

The company posted losses of $3.2 million, or 18¢ per share on sales of $108.5 million for the 3 months ended December 31. The company saw the bottom-line shrink nearly 200% from its posted $3.4 million in profits during the same quarter last year, while sales grew 3.7%.
