3. Gauss Surgical raises $3.3 million

Gauss Surgical raised $3.3 million and is looking to raise $600,000 more in a new round of equity financing, according to an SEC filing.

Gauss’ flagship product is the Triton fluid management system, which runs on Apple’s iPad and calculates blood loss in surgical sponges by merely photographing them, the Los Altos, Calif.-based company said. Read more


2. Sorin, Cyberonics jump after Italian court clears way for $3B merger

Shares of Sorin Group and Cyberonics jumped after the medical device companies said the way is clear for the consummation of their $2.7 billion merger.

Sorin said a Milan court dismissed a claim brought by an Italian state attorney seeking to prevent Sorin from dodging a $3.76 billion environmental lawsuit filed against its former corporate parent. Read more


1. PAD: FDA approves Boston Scientific’s Innova stent

Boston Scientific said the FDA approved its Innova stent for treating peripheral artery disease, 4 years after the medical device company recalled some lots of the product.

The self-expanding stent is designed to treat obstructions of the superficial femoral artery or proximal popliteal artery. Boston Scientific recalled some of the Innova devices overseas in 2011, after receiving reports that the stent, used to treat lesions in the femoral artery and the adjacent proximal popliteal artery, failed to deploy completely or only partially deployed. Read more
