MicroPort Orthopedics said today it launched the Profemur Preserve hip stem for use in hip replacement procedures.
The Profemur Preserve is designed with a shorter stem, which are moree commonly used in younger patient populations to preserve bone for future revisions and treatments, Arlington, Tenn.-based MicroPort said.
“As physicians evaluate the landscape of short stems, Profemur Preserve is attractively positioned to capture market share,” hip product manager Patrick Gregory said in a press release.
The Preserve is one of multiple modular stems usable with MicroPort products. The 1st 2 hip replacements using the Profemur Preserve was Dr. Philip Merritt of Glendale, Calif., Microport Orthopedics said.
In June 2013, Microport purchased OrthoRecon and the portfolio of orthopedic products it owned for $290 million in cash from Wright Medical (NSDQ:WMGI).
