Edwards Lifesciences, BD’s CareFusion ink interoperability pact

Edwards Lifesciences, CareFusionEdwards Lifesciences (NYSE:EW) and Becton Dickinson (NYSE:BDX) subsidiary CareFusion said today that they inked an interoperability pact for their respective hemodynamic monitoring and IV fluid administration offerings.

The focus will be on hydration for moderate- to high-risk surgical patients using Edwards’ hemodynamic monitoring systems and fluid management algorithms and CareFusion’s Alaris infusion systems, they said. The collaboration aims to examine any correlation between appropriately hydrated patients and improved outcomes, the companies said.

“We are proud to continue our decades-long partnership with physicians to advance patient care, and offer an integrated solution to patient management. We are focused on providing clinicians with innovative technologies that enable them to monitor a patient’s fluid levels before, during and after surgery, and implement care strategies to aid in their recovery. We look forward to working closely with CareFusion to advance patient care,” Edwards critical care & vascular vice president Katie Szyman said in prepared remarks.

“This collaboration builds on our history of innovation in patient monitoring infusion solutions and the investments we’ve made in our interoperability platform that integrates the Alaris Infusion System to HIT systems. We are excited to extend that interoperability capability to integration with patient monitoring. Our vision is to create interoperability with many different types of systems and devices to help improve the patient care, efficiency and cost of IV therapy,” added BD infusion solutions general manager J.C. Kyrillos.
