5. Baxter touts data on Theranova Dialyser efficacy, toxin clearance

Baxter today presented data from 24 different abstracts on treatments for end-stage kidney disease, touting 8 that covered its Theranova dialyser, indicated for treating chronic and acute renal failure.

The study data was presented at the European Renal Association and European Dialysis and Transplant Association’s 53rd Congress this week. Read more


4. Insulet launches ‘Podder’ platform for Omnipod patients

Insulet said today that it launched a new online platform for diabetes patients who use its Omnipod insulin management system, alongside a new mobile app and new branding for the device.

3. Toyota resurrects DEKA’s iBot wheelchair

Toyota Motor North America said last week that it’s planning to resurrect the iBot stair-climbing wheelchair developed by famed investor Dean Kamen’s DEKA Research & Development company.

The deal calls for DEKA to complete the development and launch of a new version of the iBot, the Japanese auto maker said. Toyota said it will also license the balancing technology developed by the R&D firm for medical rehabilitation and perhaps other purposes. Read more


2. Luminex raises Nanosphere offer to $102m

Luminex said today that a 3rd-party offer for Nanosphere prompted it to raise its own $83 million bid for the company and its Verigene molecular diagnostics technology.

Last week Luminex offered $1.35 pe share for Nanosphere and said it would also pay off some $25 million of Nanosphere’s debt. Today the company said a $1.50-per-share bid from an unnamed 3rd party moved it to up the ante on its own offer to $1.70 per share, taking the total deal value to $102 million. Read more


1. NuVasive launches Attrax bone putty in the U.S.

MassDevice.com news

NuVasive Inc. said today that it’s launching its Attrax bone putty in the U.S., after winning 510(k) clearance from the FDA in October 2015.

The synthetic bone graft putty is designed to encourage bone growth at the site of a spinal fusion procedure. Read more
