5. Baxter sees shares lift on Street-beating Q1 earnings release
Baxter shares have risen today after the medical device company topped expectations on Wall Street with its 1st quarter earnings results.
The Deerfield, Ill.-based company posted profits of $272 million, or 50¢ per share, on sales of $2.48 billion for the 3 months ended March 31. The company saw its bottom line shrink 92% while sales grew 4.2% compared with the same period in 2016. Read more
4. Medtronic touts 5-year Endurant II AAA registry data
Medtronic today released 5-year data from the Engage global registry study of its Endurant II abdominal aortic aneurysm stent graft, touting long-term durability and consistent outcomes with the device.
Results from the study, which the company claims is the most robust post-market registry of endovascular aortic repairs to date, was presented at the 2017 Charing Cross Symposium in London this week. Read more
3. Edwards shares rise on Beat-and-Raise Q1
Shares in Edwards Lifesciences rose today after the medical device maker topped expectations on Wall Street with its 1st quarter results.
The Irvine, Calif.-based company posted profits of $230.2 million, or $1.06 per share, on sales of $883.5 million for the 3 months ended March 31, for bottom-line growth of 61% while sales grew 26.7% compared to the same period in 2016. Read more
2. Intuitive Surgical wins CE Mark for da Vinci X system
Intuitive Surgical said today it won CE Mark approval in the European Union for its new da Vinci X surgical system.
The da Vinci X system offers access to a portfolio of robotic-assisted surgical technologies at a price point lower than previous models, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said. The system operates on the same vision cart and surgeon consoles used by the company’s flagship da Vinci Xi system. Read more
1. Cardiovascular Systems to pay $25m in whistleblower, wrongful termination suit
Cardiovascular Systems said today it was found liable for approximately $25.1 million in damages in a whistleblower and wrongful termination suit involving a former regional sales manager.
The suit, filed by Steven Babyak in Nov. 16, 2015, alleged that the company engaged in retaliation and the eventual discharge of Babyak in response to his expressed concerns over issues relating to patient safety and violations of state and federal laws. Babyak worked for the company for 3 years, and was fired on June 1, 2015. Read more
