ResMed launches AirMini CPAP, touts as world’s smallest

ResMed (NYSE:RMD) today launched its AirMini continuous positive airway pressure device, touting it as the world’s smallest machine of its kind.

The newly launched AirMini weighs 0.66 lbs and is small enough to fit in a patient’s pocket for traveling, the San Diego-based company said. The device also features built-in humidification and the company’s AutoSet functionality.

ResMed said that in a recent survey, 65% of CPAP users questioned said that device size was the main reason they didn’t take their CPAP when they travel, which lowers the rate of adherence and can lead to depreciating health conditions.

“The ResMed AirMini has redefined CPAP therapy – providing patients with peace of mind, knowing they can easily get ResMed-quality therapy wherever they are. CPAP is now more portable and accessible than ever before. I have been traveling all over the world with a prototype of the AirMini system, using AutoSet, humidification, and an AirFitTM P10 pillows mask, and it has changed my travel life. I am so excited to see that this technology is now available to many millions of sleep apnea patients,” ResMed CEO Mick Farrell said in a press release.

The device can be controlled through a smartphone application which can change comfort settings and track nightly usage, ResMed said, and is fully compatible with the company’s AirFit N20 nasal and F20 full face masks.

The AirMini will begin shipping to US customers on May 31, the company said, with additional availability in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Spain and the UK.

In January, ResMed won FDA 510(k) clearance for the AirMini CPAP device. The company said the AirMini is designed as a secondary CPAP device, designed to allow patients to maintain sleep apnea therapy while traveling.
