Masimo donates $5m in med devices to Jordan to aid refugees

 

Masimo (NSDQ:MASI) said today it is donating $5 million of its Signal Extraction Technology pulse oximeters and pulse co-oximeters and other medical equipment to hospitals in Jordan to aid its citizens and Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

The 1st shipment of equipment has already been delivered and is in use at Amman, Jordan’s Al-Bashir hospital, the Irvine, Calif.-based company said.

“The people of Jordan have opened their hearts and country to help their neighbors in need. The situation in Syria keeps getting worse. The people of Jordan are our heroes – taking in the Palestinian refugees, the Iraqi refugees, then the Egyptian refugees, and now the large influx of Syrian refugees. We knew our plan for aid needed to be long-term. We not only donated the much needed oximeters, other medical equipment, and supplies but we also committed to train and provide continued technical support for the Jordanian clinicians that assist in the front line care of the people of Jordan. The need is great and it is too overwhelming for just a few countries to shoulder. As global citizens, we all need to get involved and help the people of Syria and those trying to save them,” CEO Joe Kiani said in prepared remarks.

The rest of the equipment will arrive in Jordan shortly, Masimo said. The company said it plans to provide training and technical support for clinicians using its products.

In August, Masimo moved its headquarters to a Hollywood-hotspot at 52 Discovery in Irvine, Calif., a location often used in films to represent upscale corporate headquarters.

The rotund glass front entrance has served as a backdrop for multiple hollywood films, operating as the upscale Stark headquarters in Iron Man, and a central location in Transformers, Dodgeball, and multiple other films and tv shows.
