3. Thoratec HeartMate 3 CE trial meets primary endpoint
Thoratec said the CE Mark trial of its HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device has met its primary endpoint and reported a 92% rate of survival at 6 months. Data from the trial was presented at the Heart Failure Society of America’s annual meeting in Washington D.C.
The HeartMate 3 is a centrifugal-flow chronic left ventricular assist system which uses magnetically levitated technology and a reduced size for easier placement, the Pleasanton, Calif.-company said. Read more
2. Medtronic acquires stent retriever cover-dev Lazarus Effect for $100m
Medtronic said it acquired Campbell, Calif.-based stent-retriever cover developer Lazarus Effect for $100 million in an all-cash transaction.
Lazarus’ Cover device is designed to wrap stent retriever devices with a novel nitinol “mesh cover” that folds over the retreiver during clot retrieval and “candy wraps” the stent with the clot contained, Fridely, Minn.-based Medtronic said. Read more
1. AdvaMed CEO Ubl steps down
Advamed said its longtime CEO Steve Ubl will resign from his position effective October 15.
Ubl has spent 16 years with AdvaMed, with the last 10 years of his tenure as president & CEO, raising the medical device industry’s national profile and leading the fight against the medical device tax enacted as part of Obamacare. Ubl lead the group in international expansion, including a recently opened office in China Advamed said. Read more
