Exit interview: Stephen Ubl on moving on from AdvaMed

Former Advamed CEO Stephen UblBefore Stephen Ubl departed for a job as the chief lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry, medtech’s main man in Washington, D.C., sat down with MassDevice.com publisher Brian Johnson to reflect on his time at AdvaMed.

Ubl worked 16 years at the Advanced Medical Technology Assn., spending the last 10 years as president & CEO, raising the medical device industry’s national profile and leading the fight against the medical device tax enacted as part of Obamacare. Ubl lead the group in international expansion, including a recently opened office in China.

AdvaMed officials announced Sept. 25 that Ubl was leaving for a position as the head the pharmaceutical industry’s largest trade group, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA.
